I've been meaning to pick up one of these antlers from fellow Milwaukee artist Cassandra Smith ever since they debuted in Print Shop Forever, an awesome online art shop run by my other Milwaukee buddy Cortney Heimerl. I was just reminded today when I saw Cassandra's work mentioned on My Love for You. You can get the painted antlers on Cassandra's etsy shop, but the sequined ones are only available on PSF. And I just grabbed this one!

stocked 'em

just dropped off at Project M

I just dropped off this family of necklaces at Project M Boutique here in Milwaukee. They're pretty rad. If you're in the area you should definitely check them out! There are a few Little Ocean clothing items there as well. Most of these necklaces are also in my etsy shop right now.

Hovercraft is coming

Hovercraft

Some friends of mine are putting together a craft fair/ art show / awesomeness exhibition (as I interpret it) in Milwaukee this December. I encourage all you local creatives to participate. It's cheap and sure to be fun. Alls you gotta do is email them with a description of your work and some pics by Sept. 30th. Check out their blog and do it!

Alyssa Schulte at Sky High Gallery

If you live in Milwaukee, (and you aren't out of town for a wedding like me) then there is absolutely no reason why you should not be at this gallery opening tomorrow. Alyssa Schulte will be showing her awesome work and a mural she's installed at Faythe Levine's new gallery. Saturday 2-6pm at Sky High Skate Shop and Gallery 2501 S. Howell Ave.

I'm sooo very happy that Faythe has a gallery once again. She is the best curator ever. She has packed this summer with a bunch of great events and shows.

Koz's Minibowl

Milwaukee, with our German heritage and strong beer drinking culture, is a natural place to go bowling. At the height of bowling's popularity a century ago, Milwaukee was the world capitol of the sport.

History has left us with some unique places to visit. The modern 80 lane complexes are out in the suburbs. But the quaint, stinky, paraphernalia-plastered 4 lane gems are in basements and backrooms of corner bars in our neighborhoods. Even though I only live a few blocks away, I have yet to visit the Holler House, the oldest certified bowling alley in the country. Actually, my parents lived next door to it when I was a newborn, so I guess I probably have been in there a few times.

Anyways, we celebrated Mara's 5th birthday this weekend by taking her and her friends to Koz's Minibowl. If you've ever been there for a bachelor party, or a late night drunken romp through the southside, you'd probably never think of it as an appropriate place for a child's birthday party. But on an early Saturday afternoon it was perfect.

The balls are the size of grapefriuts, the lanes 17 feet long, and 15 year-old pinboys sit behind the lanes to manually reset the pins after each roll. Taxadermy abounds, including a huge lion head and hide ready to pounce from atop an antique ice chest.

Anyways, it's a great place to visit with friends. They're not listed, the address is 2078 S. 7th street.

Today the city of Milwaukee is enduring our first blizzard of 2010. We're used to this sort of stuff. The plows are out in force, the schools are open. Thousands of cars across the city are wagging their trunks side to side down the slushie streets. As I labor with my shovel down my sidewalk, I can't help but think of the winters in centuries past. The people from that time would think we were totally insane. MOVE the snow? Take billions of pounds of snow, and shove it out of your way? If only there was a way today we could all just take the tires off our cars and replace them with sleigh runners. And everyone had snow shoes. Of course, then we would need horses....

bye bye boat

Sunday was Paper Boat Boutique and Gallery's last day. I got to be their very last sale ever. I'm very thankful to Faythe and Kim for all the amazing art and craft they brought to Milwaukee. Sad to see the place go, but excited for the future. Cheers, ladies!
