pichas on da wall

My house is really damn big. Therefore, I have lots of walls. And I love taking photos, collecting kitch, buying prints online, and supporting local artists.... It's just a HUGE job hanging all this stuff. I won't complain, it's fun. But it's hard to frame everything on my thrift-supply alone. I found these from Second Line Frames. They are pretty much exactly what I'm always looking for/dreaming of making.

happy happy

Yesterday was Matthew's birthday. I got him some special bottles of beer. Hitachino is a Japanese beer that we had for the first time years ago when we took our bikes down to Chicago and rode around all day discovering new places like this crazy beautiful old liquor store where we found it. It has a very cute bottle and cap.

carrot cake, mmmmm

my husband is a carpenter

He's been working independently as a contractor for a few years, sanding floors and fixing doors. But recently he's found time to hone his woodworking skills. He's done custom built-ins in the past, which he loves. He's into traditional designs, and restoring or replacing those fine details that make old homes special. Also, he did some more contemporary pieces for his mom's new office. Turns out, he's pretty good at the inventive design as well. I took some pictures to make a flyer for the open studio he will be hosting next month.

some new dresses

These pics were taken at the mitchel park domes during the prism fashion show. I live just 2 blocks away from mitchel park and I take the kids there often. Anyways, these dresses are going up in my shop over the next couple of days.

Fear God and keep His commandment

I should write a comic about my neighborhood. I don't even have to leave my house, I collect wild stories from my windows.

Hello Again

It's been a long time since I posted. Too much has happened! I guess I'm still confused as to how much of life should be documented and shared and how much I should just let happen and drift off. Also, when it took me too long to post about the first thing I took pictures of, I went on debating whether I could still post it even though something else I wanted to blog about happened already, and the whole conundrum subconsciously overwhelmed me, I think.
Anyways, here's what I'll do to recap; pictures with one-sentence captions. Just a few things that happened in the last month.....

Little Ocean showed in the Prism Fashion Show at the Domes.

Mara did colorful "experiments" in the kitchen.

Makai got a respiratory infection and I stayed in the hospital with him while my parents took the rest of my family to Florida.

We purchased a foreclosed duplex in our neighborhood in our aspiration to be slumlords.

After three and a half years as a storefront, I closed Fasten and helped Sparrow take it's place.

Whoa, that last one is a doozie. Feels good to see it summed up nice and simple like that, though there was nothing simple about that decision at all.

Well, that'll do. I'll try to post daily now to avoid this in the future. We'll see how I do. I'll have to get faster at one-handed typing. (Makai is on my lap whining at this very moment)
