Thank You Art vs. Craft!

I've been selling at you since the beginning, and you're always awesome.

Me looking serious in my booth.

There was some really great stuff there this year. I bought a beautiful and quirky print from my buddy Alyssa. And my mom-in-law let me pick out my xmas present. I chose a totally unique hat from the very talented lady who happened to be my first customer of the day.

score!

Picked up this handwoven throw at "The" thrift store. Not sure how much it cost. The nun there always just gives me some seemingly arbitrary total when I check out with her. This + a spool of ribbon + 2 peices of fabric = $7.

You know me. I love anything folksy, retro, handmade, traditional, strange. So the thrift store is the only place I really enjoy shopping. Now the mainstream has picked up on these asthetics over the past 5-6 years, I know. But yeah, I guess this southwest native theme is in right now....huh, news flash.....And you thought you were reading a style blog!

No, but really, I think I did know that it was hot. Maybe subconsciously when I designed the Kaia dress. There's a little more of that theme in the collection I'm putting together right now.

squish your squash

I made my favorite soup last week- creamy butternut squash. I was eating the last bowl for lunch the other day when I was suddenly struck by how beautiful it's color was. Yummy golden mustard autumn pencil yellow. (The picture above looks a lot more orange than it's supposed to.) Then I realized that EVERY garment I've purchased new in the past 3 months is this very color! It's not that amazing really, because I buy very little clothing new. I'm actually speaking of only 3 things- a sweater vest from Urban Outfitters, a cardigan from Target, and some tights. It's the color of the season, I guess. It shows up in my collection a bit. You'll be able to see it in action in my booth at Art vs Craft on the 28th.
Mustard yellow messanger/laptop bag by iroshka. See how wonderful this color looks next to purple!

spreading myself out

Lots of mini collections going out to boutiques these days. Besides Milwaukee, Little Ocean is also now in Texas, Maryland, Kentucky, Illinois, and soon to be in Oakland, CA at a store called Bella Vita.

It feels good to get myself out there. But I do feel like I'm figuratively spread too thin. It takes me longer than I plan to get these orders and collections together, and I'm neglecting my etsy store. Not to mention, I've got two shows coming up in a few weeks with no inventory ready! I guess I should keep on with it though, because after Christmas things will slow down. I'm just behind and feeling stressed because of some yucky yucky illnesses in the house. (I just changed pukey sheets, rocked a whining babe back to sleep, and dispensed Tylenol to 3 people all in the past hour. I feel like I'm running an infirmary!)

I will get caught up. I must! Art vs Craft on Nov 28th is going to be awesome, and then I've got Renegade Holiday Show on Dec 5th & 6th. There are so many great things I can't wait to sew up. I just have to get used to 6 hours of sleep each night.

happy halloween

I was burried alive.

tehehe

My ingredients; flour, mud, leaves, plastic spiders, and spirit gum.

Mara was a dead princess. Makai was a puppy dog. Matthew was a poor tired man who had to re-roof a house all weekend with a bad cold.
